How OT can help

As an experienced Occupational Therapist I aim to ensure every episode of intervention is child-centred and fun. A variety of assessments can be used to gain a better understanding of a child’s presenting difficulties and subsequently treatment can be tailored to help develop their skills and ultimately promote their confidence, independence and developing skills.

I regularly focus on the following:

  • Addressing hand-eye coordination to improve children’s play and school skills such as hitting a target or copying from the school board
  • Helping children with severe developmental delays learn basic tasks such as bathing, getting dressed, brushing their teeth, and feeding themselves
  • Promoting children’s visual perceptual skills to improve their memory, spelling and reading skills
helping children with behavioral disorders maintain positive behaviors in all environments
  • Teaching children the coordination skills needed to feed themselves, use a computer, or increase the speed and legibility of their handwriting
  • Helping children work on their fine motor skills so they can grasp and release toys and develop good in-hand manipulation skills
  • Evaluating a child’s need for low level specialized equipment such as pencil grips, angled writing slopes and self care aids
  • Improving focus and social skills with children who have sensory and attention issues
assist children who struggle to make sense of their world around them by improving the interpretation of sense and ultimately improving function

As well as offering private therapy SPOT also offers school training packages. Please contact Gaye Griffiths to discuss your requirements.
